About Julie’s Cake in a Box

Hi! I’m Julie Rogerson, cake artist and owner of Julie’s Cake in a Box, mum to 3 young adults and a dog lover!

I have always loved baking and I have a very sweet tooth! I love chocolate and lemon cakes (not together obviously) and I also love anything ginger.

I have very fond memories of baking with my mum as a small child, sitting next to the bowl on the worktop, as I was too small to reach, and carried this tradition on with my own children when they were younger.

This has more recently developed into a passion to make my cakes look as good as they taste. A passion which has led to a change in career and achieving things I never dreamed possible, such as winning awards in competitions, collaborating on projects with cake artists from around the world and writing tutorials for cake decorating magazines.

I particularly enjoy the challenge of creating illusion style cakes, which look like everyday objects, animals, vehicles and other food items. The reactions of shock and amazement that these produce are amazing which I love!!

Cakes can be very emotive and my Dad’s reaction to his ‘Beer Barrel’ 70th birthday cake, which actually poured beer was priceless, one of those moments that stick in your memory forever.

What do cakes mean to me?

Cakes have always been central to a great celebration for me, after all, in the words of Julia Childs “A party without cake is just a meeting” and I totally agree!

I believe that a fabulous cake starts with the best ingredients, followed by a sprinkle of creativity and finished off with lashings of love.

That is why every cake I make is lovingly baked and decorated by hand to the highest standards, whether it be for a wedding, birthday or any other special occasion.

All cakes are individually designed and created to your requirements, from the smallest cupcake right through to the largest wedding cake (and everything in between), using high quality ingredients.

As well as making cakes, I thoroughly enjoy creating one off pieces for competitions, collaborations and exhibitions. I regularly compete at Cake International in Birmingham, where I have won several awards in the decorative exhibit categories.

I feel very privileged to have worked with some amazing cake artists from around the globe in collaborations and displays, both online and at cake shows.
